Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission has notified recruitment for 821 posts under Advt. No. 740, Notification No. 07/2026 dated 11 August 2026. Applications are accepted online from 11 Aug 2026 to 09 Sept 2026. The prescribed qualification is A degree from a UGC-recognised university, with knowledge of Tamil, and the age limit is 18 to 32 years before category relaxation is applied. The vacancies are spread across 2 distinct posts, and the category-wise split for each is set out in the vacancy table below.

Selection is made through Preliminary examination, Main examination and Onscreen certificate verification, followed by the remaining stages set out below. Selected candidates are placed in the pay scale of Levels 9 to 18 of the Tamil Nadu pay matrix, depending on the post. The place of posting is Departments across Tamil Nadu. The examination is currently scheduled for 01 Nov 2026, which leaves a defined window to work back from when planning preparation.

The application fee is ₹150, valid five years for One Time Registration — all candidates, and no fee is payable by SC, ST, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and destitute widows. The entire process is completed online, from registration through to fee payment and the final printout of the confirmation page. A correction window is available after applications close, and it is the only opportunity to amend most fields — details are in the dates table below.

Read the official notification in full before you begin the form. Eligibility, fees and dates are revised through corrigenda more often than candidates expect, and an application submitted against the wrong criteria is rejected at document verification rather than at submission — by which point the cycle is over.

Selection Process

Each stage is qualifying for the next. Clearing a stage does not carry marks forward unless the notification says so.

  1. 1Preliminary examinationa single objective paper of 200 marks, screening only
  2. 2Main examinationseparate for each group: a qualifying Tamil paper and a 300-mark General Studies paper
  3. 3Onscreen certificate verification
  4. 4Physical certificate verification and counselling

Exam Pattern

Understanding the marking scheme is worth as much as the syllabus — attempt strategy depends on the negative marking below.

SectionQuestionsMarksDuration
Preliminary — General Studies, aptitude and language, OMR2003 hours
Main Paper I — Tamil eligibility test, qualifying only1003 hours
Main Paper II — Group II, General Studies, descriptive3003 hours
Main Paper II — Group IIA, General Studies and reasoning, computer-based3003 hours

The **preliminary marks are for screening only and do not count towards the final rank**. Paper I is a Tamil eligibility test needing 40 of 100, and it too is excluded from merit — the ranking rests on the 300-mark Paper II.
